For our script writing competitions, we are looking for issue 1 of your original series or the first 20-24 pages of your graphic novel. We’d love to read original voices, diverse characters, and stories the world needs or hasn’t seen before.
For our finished short comics competition, we are looking for just that — finished short comics! It can be color or black & white, but we expect it to be finished — a.k.a. fully drawn and lettered.
For our comic book script competitions, we are looking for 20-24 page comics — meaning 20-24 comic book pages, therefore your submission document might be over 24 pages as your comic book page descriptions are sometimes longer than a document page [but please keep it under 40 pages].
For our finished short comics competition, we are looking for 4-8 page finished [drawn and lettered] comics.
If you are submitting to our script writing competitions, then you should submit a PDF of your long-form comic book script — full with page headers and panel descriptions, as well as dialogue and sound effects.

Also, here are 3 scripts, shared with us specifically for educational purposes, where you can see alternate versions of a long-form comic book script that would also work for us — just don’t forget to include a title page on your submission.
Yes, please include your contact information on the cover page of your submission for ease of contact, but you will not be penalized in any way if the contact information is missing.
Think of this as a logline for a screenplay — we want to know about your protagonist, their obstacles, what’s at stake, and who or what is preventing them from their goal.
Your summary should be concise and engaging. Remember, it will be featured on our website for industry professionals to read if you are a finalist!

Absolutely not. Submissions of all kinds are welcome, powers or no powers.
All the deadlines are listed within each competition page — the cut off for each deadline is 11:59pm EST.

Yes! We encourage creators who have been previously published in the industry to submit. However, your original story must not have been published, sold, or made money in any way. Crowdfunded comics are eligible — we are here to help share these stories with the world!
If you believe you can benefit from mentorship and we can assist in your career growth, we are here for you.
Once a comic has been entered into the competition, you cannot update your submission. But we understand mistakes happen, if you uploaded the wrong PDF, email hello@negativespacecomics.com and let us know, we’ll help to get the situation worked out.
You will only receive feedback notes on your comic if you pay for the “add on” at checkout. If you do, your feedback notes are on the way!
Feedback notes may take up to 30-days after the end of the competition.
Announcement dates are posted on the competition web page. You will receive an email from us if you’ve made it to the next round.
If your comic didn’t make it through in this competition, you will also receive an email from us — we encourage all writers to continue to hone their craft and re-submit their comics to our future competitions.
