What are we looking for?2023-01-03T10:06:57-05:00

For our script writing competitions, we are looking for issue 1 of your original series or the first 20-24 pages of your graphic novel. We’d love to read original voices, diverse characters, and stories the world needs or hasn’t seen before.

For our finished short comics competition, we are looking for just that — finished short comics! It can be color or black & white, but we expect it to be finished — a.k.a. fully drawn and lettered.

For our comic book script competitions, we are looking for 20-24 page comics — meaning 20-24 comic book pages, therefore your submission document might be over 24 pages as your comic book page descriptions are sometimes longer than a document page [but please keep it under 40 pages].

For our finished short comics competition, we are looking for 4-8 page finished [drawn and lettered] comics.

If you are submitting to our script writing competitions, then you should submit a PDF of your long-form comic book script — full with page headers and panel descriptions, as well as dialogue and sound effects.

Here is a templates you can use: Comic Book Script Template — based on the courses taught by Andy Schmidt (and slightly edited by Nahuel F.A.). Please note, this link will download a file of the comic book script template to your desktop.

Also, here are 3 scripts, shared with us specifically for educational purposes, where you can see alternate versions of a long-form comic book script that would also work for us — just don’t forget to include a title page on your submission.

  1. Y the Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan (Issue 18)
  2. Zatanna by Adam Beechen (Issue 14)
  3. Shadowman by Andy Diggle (Issue 1)
Can my contact information be on the title page of the script?2023-01-03T10:09:59-05:00

Yes, please include your contact information on the cover page of your submission for ease of contact, but you will not be penalized in any way if the contact information is missing.

Think of this as a logline for a screenplay — we want to know about your protagonist, their obstacles, what’s at stake, and who or what is preventing them from their goal.

Your summary should be concise and engaging. Remember, it will be featured on our website for industry professionals to read if you are a finalist!
